What's the best way to clean the surface of my hood?

Stainless steel range hoods surface should be washed regularly with a clean cloth, warm water and mild soap or watered down dish detergent. Clean in the direction of the polish lines. Rinse well with clear water and wipe dry immediately (Too maintain the shininess of range hood surface). You may wish to apply light oil used for furniture polishing to emphasize more of its bright finish.

Wiping regularly with mild soap or detergent and warm water cleans the range hood surface and should protect painted range hood surfaces. Be careful about using "New and Improved" cleaning detergent, especially ones with stiff abrasives and more toxic chemicals. Your range hood is installed over hot cooking equipment. Most chemicals found in "New and Strong" cleaning detergent react with heat to loosen paint.

Can I exhaust my hood into my attic instead of out the roof or wall?

No. You should never exhaust air into spaces within walls, ceilings, attics, crawl spaces or garages. This will lead to a house fire. This is especially important to why we urge you to have a professional installer do range hood installation.

How often should I clean my filters?

The aluminum mesh grease filters should be washed in your dishwasher about every month depending on the amount of usage. (Often, people wait until the filter looks dirty.) Wash regularly if you cook grease like frying foods or wok cooking. Simply, the more grease you use, the more you need to clean the filter. You cannot clean the non-duct charcoal filters. They must be replaced every 6-9 months, depending on your cooking style.

Baffle filters used in professional style range hoods are designed to operate longer in high grease conditions without loss of performance. Usually, the Baffle filters need to be cleaned with soap and water whenever the surfaces become sticky.

Can I install an external vent fan or in-line fan to boost the performance of my hood ventilation equipment?

Do not install in-line or external fans to boost a range hood that has its own power unit. In general, this kind of modification is ineffective. Also, most range hoods are designed with fan switches which matched to the original motor amp ratings and would not support the modification to increase amp draw from additional motor installations. This type of modification voids the original manufacturer's warranty. If you want a remote/extended fan, there are range hood products made for that type of modification.

How often should the non-ducted range hood filters be replaced?

It depends on how often you cook and types of food you make. Usually, we recommend the customers replace the charcoal filter every 6 to 9 months. Most of the range hood charcoal filters are non-washable.

How high should I mount my hood above my stove?

We usually recommend a range of 18" - 24" between the bottom of the range hood and the top of the cook top. This will provide the best capture area for cooking impurities.

Can I replace an Over The Range Microwave with a Range Hood?

Yes. Whether your current Over The Range Microwave is non-ducted or ducted, we offer a variety of range hoods to ventilate your cooking area and meet your needs.

Is a cabinet above the range hood required to mount the Under The Cabinet Range Hood?

Some range hood models are designed for mounting to the wall and do not require cabinet for mounting. However, range hoods designed for under cabinet applications need a cabinet to mount the under the cabinet range hoods.

Which is better, ducted range hood or non-ducted range hood?

Range hoods should be vented to the outside of the home. While non-ducted charcoal filters trap only some of the grease and odors from normal cooking. However, the humidity, smoke and heat will all be recirculated back into the home from the non-ducted range hood. If the non-ducted filters are not replaced after being used for 6 to 9 months, the charcoal filters lose its effective ness on catching gease and odors form cooking.

My ceiling height is much taller than most kitchens and I want my stove on an island. What do I do about ventilation?

The chimney extensions are available for Island range hoods for up to 10' ceilings.

What type of duct is best for venting a range hood?

Range hoods must be vented to outside by using metal duct. Usually there are two kinds of metal duct: flexible metal duct and smooth metal duct. You have two options to fit your needs.

  • You should NEVER use 4" dryer duct or any plastic duct on a range hood installation. The minimum size duct allowed on most range hoods is 3" by 10" which is equivalent to 6" round. More powerful range hoods require even larger duct sizes up to 10" round.

  • When remodeling and changing range hood types, do not reduce the duct size to less than the size specified for the range hood. Decreasing the duct size restricts the performance of the range hood ventilator. This causes the life of range hood motor to shrink.

Can I remove the range hood controls and mount them remote from the hood?

No, altering the product voids manufacturer's warranty. Check for models that already offer remote switch options.

What do the CFM and Sone ratings mean?

CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute of exhausting air flow. The higher the number, the greater the amount of air that is exhausted using the Range Hood. Think of it as how much faster the air would be cleaned...the higher the CFM, the faster the air is cleaned.....but usually this means the higher the Sone.

A Sone is an internationally recognized unit of loudness. Sones are a linear measure like inches. Doubling the sone value is equivalent to doubling the loudness. To get a sense of what one sone represents, one Sone is equivalent to the sound of a quiet refrigerator in a quiet kitchen. Typically, the Sone level is measured at maximum CFM (speed), however, some newer products are also being tested at normal CFM (speed) settings to provide consumers with typical sound level information.

All of our Range Hoods CFM and Sone ratings are HVI certified so you can rely on them!

If I have a custom range hood built for my kitchen, can you provide protective liner for their hood inserts?

No. You would need to find a metal fabricator in your area to design a liner for your hood, especially if local building codes require one.

How much CFM do I need for my Range or Cook Top?

For conventional electric and gas ranges or cook tops, we offer variety of range hoods to fit your needs. For high output gas ranges or cook tops, the minimum rate of 1 CFM of ventilation per 100 BTU is recommended.

Can you build custom design range hoods?

No, we do not build custom range hoods at this time. We are looking into this possibility in the future so check back often.

What is the CFM and Sone rating on a non-ducted range hood?

Since the range hood re-circulates the air, there is no national standard for the measurement of CFM or Sones on a non-ducted range hood.

Does a cord come with a range hood?

Yes, all of our range hoods come with a cord to plug into your power outlet.

    How are range hoods ducted?

There are several ducting methods, depending on the range hood model. Most of our range hoods vent from the top vertically or horizontally through the rear of the product

Can I use a downdraft range hoods with a slide-in stove?

There is no way to use downdrafts range hoods with stoves or built-in ovens. The units must only be installed with drop-in cooking equipment.

How far can I run my ductwork to exhaust my hood?

To keep maximum performance of your range hood use the duct straight and short. Use the shortest route with the fewest turns possible. 45 degrees turns are better than 90 degrees turns.
